It was in 2022 that we passed through Beheloka on a trip further south and the magic of the place and its inhabitants worked. After months of reflection and searching for the ideal location, we decided to put down our suitcases there and create Beheloka Lodge. Beheloka is one of the most important fishing villages in the region and has managed to keep its authenticity and its Vezo soul.

A favorite in Madagascar

Located in the Atsimo-Andrefana region, on the edge of the Ambatobe lagoon, Beheloka Lodge offers you a unique experience and change of scenery. Nestled in a preserved natural setting, it is the ideal place to recharge your batteries and find yourself. You will be accommodated in one of our 6 bungalows, all located facing the Indian Ocean. Our relaxation and catering area will charm you with its peaceful and friendly spirit.

Finally, Beheloka is the starting point for many discoveries. Our team, entirely from the village and the surrounding area, will be happy to share with you its history and passion for the Big Island and will accompany you throughout your stay. We look forward to living these moments with you!

Did you know?

The Vezo people, sometimes called "the nomads of the sea", are an ethnic group of nomadic fishermen from the southwest of the Big Island. Although now mostly settled, they continue to draw their resources from the sea. While the men are fishing aboard their pirogue, the women and children search for octopus, sea urchins and other crustaceans in the lagoon.

A unique place

Located on the southwest coast of Madagascar, 60 km south of Tulear and 30 km south of Anakao, Beheloka is only accessible by sea and then track. Its isolation and exceptional location on the edge of the lagoon make it a dream location for a return to basics. Not to mention its dry climate, sunshine 300 days a year, and average temperatures between 25 and 30°C.

Our concept, our commitments

Beheloka Lodge works for a supportive, participatory and eco-responsible tourism, while respecting the Malagasy culture. Built with recycled and/or locally manufactured materials and by workers from the region and the village, the establishment blends into the landscape thanks to its traditional architecture.

Most of the food on offer comes from our vegetable garden and from seafood or land products provided by the villagers, thus contributing to the local economy. It is self-sufficient in electricity thanks to solar energy.

Waste management is a real ecological issue in Madagascar. We do everything we can to limit it as much as possible in order to preserve this little corner of paradise intact.
